Solomon Islands Diving
Take the plunge into the deep and explore the vast array of marine life on offer with visibility that can stretch to at least 30 meters. Rich in history from WWII, including the famous Battle of Guadalcanal, makes Solomon Islands a wreck divers dream. Hundreds of vessels and aircraft littering the ocean floor provides divers with a unique opportunity to explore the spectacular variety of marine and coral life that has formed as artificial reefes.
Boasting the largest saltwater lagoon in the world, Solomon Islands have become a marine life haven where divers encounter colorful coral gardens, turtles, stingrays, octopus, giant clams, sharks, manta rays and more species of fish than most dive spots in the world. There is no need for a wetsuit as the waters are generally tepid at a warm 27-30 degrees. Diving is available on several live-aboard vessels departing from Honiara and Munda as well as at various resorts that can provide days full of underwater adventures.
Uepi Island – Set in the world’s largest saltwater lagoon, Uepi Island avails itself to a combination of coral gardens and magnificent drop-off dives. Reef sharks are resident to this area due to the beautiful reef eco-systems and the diversity of the reef fish in this lagoon. Dives range from 15-30 meters with a variety of reef and drop off experiences as well as wrecks including a P38 fighter plane.
Gizo – Exhibiting some of the most exciting diverse diving experiences in the region, Gizo is a must visit. From offshore reefs to an array of WWII wrecks, enjoy and explore plummeting walls and spectacular coral formations while observing the amazing abundance of marine life.
Munda – One of the last frontiers for divers to explore, Munda offers a range of dive sites. From the amazing coral of Rainbow passage, the drop at Shark point or the soft coral overhang at Mushroom Island, this area is known for its diversity of coral and fish life.
